Piazza del Campo
The Campo is a famous plaza in Siena, Italy. It was originally a marketplace and has been the social centre of the city since it was established by the ruling council, or Consiglio dei Nove in the mid-12th century. The square features beautiful brickwork and a characteristic nine-segment shell shape. Nowadays, it's popular for coffee and snacks around its perimeter cafes.
Cappella di Piazza
The Cappella di Piazza is a beautiful white marble structure with arches that was created to thank the Virgin Mary for protecting Siena during the Black Plague. The space surrounding it is full of life with people going about their day and events taking place in the plaza throughout the year. It's a great place to relax and take in all that Siena has to offer.
Tower of Mangia
The tower, which is 338 feet tall, has always been a civic tower in Siena without any religious function. It was built between 1325-1348 and is said to contain lucky coins from all over Europe that are engraved with Hebrew and Latin letters.
Pubblico Palace
The stunning palace, which is home to the city's public museum, is adorned with beautiful frescoes and sculptures by some of the greatest artists in history. The building, which dates back to the 1300s, features a beautiful courtyard that is popular among tourists.
Palazzo Piccolomini, Siena
The Palazzo Piccolomini is a historic building in Siena, Italy. It was designed by Bernardo Rossellino and built between 1964 and 1967. It is named for Pope Pius XI, who granted the building to the city of Siena in 1931.
Sansedoni Palace
The Sansedoni Palace is the seat of the Sienese nobility and was commissioned by the family in the Middle Ages. The building has a beautiful view of Piazza del Campo and is always worth visiting for its rooms.
Duomo di Siena
The exterior of the Duomo is made up of black and white stripes on a red brick background, which gives it an imposing first impression. The best part about visiting the cathedral is inside where you'll find many beautiful artworks, including paintings and sculptures by famous artists such as Donatello, Ghiberti and Pinturicchio. One of the most famous pieces is the inlaid marble floor that is decorated with colorful mosaics.
Opera delle Metropolitana
The Opera Metropolitana is a museum displaying marble statues, altar pieces, and a restored medieval stained-glass window. The museum is located in what would have been the new nave of the cathedral and contains sculpture and works of art which formerly adorned the Duomo itself. The museum is open 9:30 am to 7 pm.
Santa Maria della Scala
The Santa Maria della Scala museum is home to a large collection of Renaissance and medieval art, including frescoes by Lorenzo di Pietro, Priamo della Quercia, and Domenico di Bartolo.
Basilica Cateriniana San Domenico
San Domenico Basilica is a medieval Gothic-style church located in the city of Siena, Tuscany, Italy. The church is noted for its decorative frescoes and marble altar, as well as its relics of Saint Catherine of Siena.
